Recommended Treatment Protocol for OAT

Recommended Treatment Protocol for OAT

The dentists listed in the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine‘s website with “Diplomate” status have undergone an extensive review and testing process.   Those that are ‘members’ may not be necessarily trained in sleep breathing disorders, although they may have interests in this field.

IMPORTANT NOTE for Dentists:

The conditions of Primary Snoring and Obstructive sleep apnea are medical conditions, not dental.  Because of this it is imperative that any dentist treating patients for snoring or sleep breathing disorders communicate with their patients’ primary care physicians or any specialists that the patients have built a relationship with in their symptoms leading to medical evaluation.

IMPORTANT NOTE to MD’s and other Health Care Providers:

Below is the protocol as recommended by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.  Both medical and trained dental providers share pertinent treatment actions.  Since most dental curriculum does NOT include training in sleep apnea treatment, it is encouraged to refer your patients to those dentists specifically trained in sleep breathing disorders.
See the AADSM Treatment Protocol here.
